Current Weather Conditions
|To help you know how to pack so that you may fully enjoy your visit to the Northwoods, here are some general weather patterns that you can expect to see throughout the year.|
The snow begins to melt at the beginning of April, with temperatures climbing to daytime highs of 45–60 degrees but dropping to 20–30 degrees at night. A chance of snow is possible into the month of June. By the end of May, the weather is a comfortable 70 degrees during the day, but will drop to the 40’s at night. (A light jacket or sweater is recommended.) During this time of the year, the forest is bursting with new life as the trees bud and the landscape turns a luscious green. The month of April and part of May offer warmer weather without the nuisance of bugs.
By July, the daytime temperatures are in the upper 80’s and 90’s, but on some nights the temperature can still drop to 65 degrees. (A light jacket is advisable for evening activities.) Bugs are out in full force during these months, and insect repellent is highly recommended. During the summer months, the lakes warm up and are ideal for swimming, boating, and fishing.
Starting in September, the leaves begin to turn brilliant gold, red, and orange. The peak season for experiencing the fall colors is the last week of September through the first week of October. It is a beautiful time to enjoy a walk through the woods as the warmth of the autumn colors surround you. (Some days may not require it, but sweaters and long-sleeved shirts are recommended as the weather can turn breezy and sometimes be rainy.) Temperatures range from 50–60 degrees during the day and are in the 40’s at night.
By Thanksgiving, you can expect to find a good layer of snow on the ground. During the winter months, the Northwoods property is transformed into a winter wonderland, with an average 1–2 feet of snow on the ground throughout the season. It is ideal for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing. Temperatures range from -15 to 35 degrees during these months. If you’re planning to be outdoors, pack warm clothes, warm winter boots, and a good winter coat.
